As part of its continuing workshops program for aircraft builders, Wicks Aircraft Supply will offer a TIG welding workshop on February 27 and 28, 2010. Featuring Mister TIG, aka Wyatt Swaim, the event will be a hands-on experience with TIG welding equipment.
During the 16 hours, participants will learn the basics of welding 4130 chrome-moly tubing, mild steel and aluminum for creating fuel tanks. Basic metallurgy will also be explored. The workshop is designed to provide instruction for 9 to 12 people. The cost is $425 per person, or $399 for EAA and SCCA members. Coffee, donuts and lunch will be provided at the Highland, Illinois site.
Anyone contemplating an aircraft that involves a steel tube fuselage or aluminum fuel tanks will find this program invaluable, said Scott Wick, president of Wicks. They should leave here after two days with the confidence to go home and complete any welding required for their aircraft project.
