First Completed Belite Airplane Unveiled in Wichita

Belite Aircraft has announced the completion of the company’s prototype. The Belite, which incorporates strong but light carbon-fiber components that meet Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) Part 103 weight requirements, provides the handling and excitement of an airplane along with the economy and fun of an ultralight, the company says. To be offered in both kit form and as a completed, flyable airplane, the Belite will be built in Wichita.

James Wiebe, president and CEO of Belite Aircraft, provided details on the single-seat design. The Belite design incorporates a new carbon-fiber wing and lift struts. In addition, we’ve used carbon fiber in the cabin and firewall, he said. As a result, our aircraft is FAR Part 103 legal while offering a real instrument panel with real avionics as well as a great engine.

Continental Motors Debuts 199-Pound O-200 Engine

Teledyne Continental Motors (TCM) has introduced its new O-200 Lightweight Engine, the first American-made aviation piston engine purpose-built for the Light Sport and kit aircraft markets.

The O-200 Lightweight Engine offers aircraft builders a certified and pedigreed engine that is lighter in weight without compromising performance, durability or service life, said Rhett Ross, TCM president.

Sporting identical dimensions to the O-200-A, the O-200 engine offers a 199-pound dry weight and comes complete with starter, ignition and fuel systems. Additional features include lightweight cylinders, precision balanced crankshaft, sprocket propeller flange and weight-matched connecting rods.

The list price is $21,499. Orders can be placed immediately, with delivery dates beginning this fall. As an added incentive to builders, TCM will accept any aviation engine core in the 85- to 115-horsepower range regardless of manufacturer. The engine need only be a complete and operable aviation engine. Details and limitations are available on TCMs web site.
