There has been a WomenVenture Center on the AirVenture for 15 previous years but the site was in a bit of a backwaters. That changed this year and the large tent is now prominently facing Knapp Street, just north of the control tower. We visited this morning and the place was hopping. It is the place for women to pick up their free WomenVenture tee shirt to wear on Wednesday for the annual photograph at 11 am on Boeing Plaza in front of the B-52. “The WomenVenture Center is a place for women to find their flock here at AirVenture,” WomenVenture Chair Margaret Viola told me. Numerous exhibitor spaces are provided for women-focused organizations, especially the smaller groups like Asian Women in Aerospace and Aviation.
The Center has a moderate-size lecture hall where a variety of lectures will be offered…some focused on women and many of more general interest. The forums are open to all. They also have a wonderfully peaceful-looking, large back porch with chairs and a few chairs scattered on the grass in front. Some meetings will take place out there. It looks like a pleasant place to spend some time.
