Oshkosh in the morning can be glorious – with airplanes on the grass, pilots in their tents, and fresh coffee brewing at the Homebuilt Camping hospitality tent. The hardy core of volunteers and new arrivals greet the day as they plan to find a place to observe the day’s activities as the weekend begins.

Unfortunately, this Saturday presented a number of weather challenges to those coming from the west and south, so arrivals were more of a trickle than a flood – but the leisurely pace of airplanes taxiing in from runways 27 and 36 actually created a relaxed feel that will no doubt go away as Sunday’s forecast is calling for the storms to move through and we expect two days of airplanes to show up between sun rise and sunset. Everyone be extra vigilant, for you won’t be alone.

Continue to follow us all week as our team of Kitplanes correspondents brings you stories that we hope will give you the feel of AirVenture – the feel of aviation in the Midwest summer.
