Sonex Aircraft LLC has announced that the FAA’s National Kit Evaluation Team (NKET) has approved and published amateur building checklists for the company’s Onex single-place, folding-wing kit aircraft. These approved checklists will allow current and future Onex builders to show compliance with the FAA’s 51% rule. NKET checklist participation also opens the opportunity for Onex builders to legally obtain commercial assistance for their projects.
Sonex is also introducing Onex upholstery packages and Onex-specific installation provisions for the AeroConversions AeroVee engine.
According to the company, the Onex was designed to offer Sport Pilots an economical way to build and fly. The folding-wing design allows the airplane to fit into a garage or share hangar space. The wing panels can also be removed for trailering.
