Jack and the Bally Bomber

Jack Bally with the Bally Bomber.

In a prominent location of the Homebuilt Camping area you’ll discover a truly one of a kind experimental aircraft: a 1/3 scale of the B17G bomber. Scratch-built by Jack Bally of Dixon, Illinois, this flying replica of the historic bomber is a crowd stopper.

Complete with four Hirth F30 engines tucked into their cowls, this one-seat aircraft represents an accurate 1/3 scale of the original bomber. Jack took 17 years to build this plane and it now has 50 hours of flight time to date. The Hirth engine was selected to power this replica as it was the only engine that would fit completely inside the accurately sized cowls.

More information, including detailed specifications about this aircraft can be found at http://theballybomber.com.
