Lakeland, Florida is welcoming the 41st Sun ‘n Fun Fly-in this week, and today was set-up day for vendors and show volunteers. We got a chance to wander around amidst all of the hustle and bustle – crates being unloaded form trucks, tents going up, and airplanes headed in every direction, like performers trying to hit their marks before the curtain rises. We expect that when the stage lights come up tomorrow morning, everything will be ready for the flying public to see what the new season has in store!
Meanwhile, this isn’t just a a trade show – its a fly-in. We counted only a couple of early arrivals in the homebuilt parking and camping by lunchtime – mostly volunteers getting in before the guests like precursors to an invasion. Weather is the big topic of conversation when we talk to others planning to come to the show, with storms in the southeast US blocking access to the Florida peninsula being the biggest concern. The good news is that the extended forecast shows a drying trend in northern Florida as the week goes on, and while the typical scattered thunderstorms will no doubt rear up in the afternoon, paths should open up for those who want to make their flying season a long one.
Come and join us in Florida this week to enjoy the planes, the people, and the show!
