It takes nearly 400 volunteers to make the homebuilt portion of AirVenture move along smoothly and there is little chance to formally organize the efforts. So, EAA provides a barbecue and corn roast on the Friday evening before the show, usually before the crowds arrive. This year, a bit a of a crowd was already arriving, pulling most of the parking crew away but the BBQ continued in the wonderful Homebuilt Pavilion. Sweet corn, hamburgers, brats, cole slaw, potato salad, chips, beer, and sodas filled the stomachs. Several EAA dignitaries attended.
President Jack Pelton told the group that pre-sales and early arrivals have broken previous records. With generally good weather forecasts for the coming week, he is hopefully of a very well-attended show.
