Anticipation is one thing, but racing is something else. And we were all robbed of a great Formula One Gold race this morning by wonky qualifying and an oil leak.
As it turned out Justin Meaders ran away with the race flag to flag. With his engine tuned up in anticipation of duking it out with Lowell Slatter in Fraed Naught and no problems during the race Meaders simply walked away with it.
Slatter was likewise ready to rumble, but when he started his O-200 Continental all he really got was a large and growing oil leak under Fraed Naught. Turned out a quick-release oil fitting had done its thing un-commanded. Slatter never took off.
Steve Senegal having handily won his Silver race forfeited that win for a last place start in the Gold. But as fast as Endeavor is there is simply too much traffic when starting in the back, so while passing competitors steadily he never was a threat to the lead.
Obviously Meaders is thrilled with the win, but after the years of development he put his new racer Limitless through, it’s certainly no fluke. If only we didn’t have to wait a year for the re-match.
