Klaus Savier is a man who uses his head. His understanding of engine management has been amply demonstrated by an impressively long list of speed and efficiency records in a variety of canard-type aircraft, along with thousands of electronic ignition installations via his Light Speed Engineering company.
On Saturday Savier found a new way to use his head, albeit with the aid of a helmet. Turbulence during his Sport heat race put his noggin so hard into the canopy to crack the Plexiglas in his Determinator racer.
Always the engineer and not fond of tape expedients, Savier and crew researched the proper fix. The next challenge was finding the correct bonding agents and doubling materials, but with the aid of a willing Reno-based supplier was able to obtain the materials and make the repair at the expense of any Saturday night social obligations he may have had.
