The switch from standard position lights and strobes to LED lights is nothing new. However, as the technology improves, so are the options to make your aircraft more visible as well as slick and aerodynamic.
AVEO Engineering has been focusing on incorporating high end lighting into homebuilt aircraft specific applications. Just in time for AirVenture, they have put together options for the RV aircraft line. This are comparable with the Vans RV 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 14, as well as the F-1 Harmon Rocket. They’re also available for the Cessna and Mooney certified aircraft.
AVEO wingtips replace the existing RV wingtips, creating a, more-or-less, plug and play option. The wingtips incorporate strobes, navigation lights, as well as trailing edge rear-facing position lights. In addition they have landing and taxi lighting, set up to “wig-wag” to enhance aircraft recognition. The company claims the landing lights are bright enough to be seen from 30 miles away! The lighting modules are smoothly enclosed in the wingtips with nothing protruding.
The wingtips are sealed to be waterproof, shockproof, and dustproof. As part of this, there can be an underwing lighting option, to create a downward floodlight illumination to better light the ground around the aircraft. Ease of camping for anyone?
AVEO ZipTips Premiere Wingtip is the same shape as the standard RV wingtip, whereas their Winglet model has a ‘swoop’ to the trailing edge, to minimize wingtip vortices.
Lastly, they AVEO a new prototype which is a 3D printed module that can replace the standard RV wingtip light cluster, with landing and taxi lights, strobes, as well as nav lights grouped together.
Nice to see some sneak and sexy lighting options.
