The Homebuilt Count

0
This year’s 893 count of Homebuilt aircraft in AirVenture’s Homebuilt Parking and Camping areas is about typical. While 2016 was a very high attendance year due to a major Van’s RV anniversary, official suspect the count of 1104 was partially double counted.

Four-hundred six airplanes were tied down in Homebuilt Parking and 487 in Homebuilt Camping last night. That was a total of 893 airplanes, almost all homebuilt. (A few spam cans almost always sneak into the count.) Of course, more homebuilts are scattered throughout the grounds at vendor booths or slumming with the North or South 40.

The count, the highest for this year, is comparable to last year’s high of 897 and about average over the last eight years. Counts consistently peak on Tuesday or Wednesday.
