One of the hidden treasures in the Reno Air Race pits, tucked in among the Sport Class racers and their pits, is a bite to with chairs, tables, and snacks. This welcome respite for weary travelers of the Stead pavement is quietly provided each year by Dynon, the makers of many of the glass panels in a lot of the racers. Dynon personnel are involved in direct crew support of several of the Sport, Biplane, and F1 racers, so it is a natural fit for the company to provide a place for folks to sit – out of the sun and/or wind – to take a break, have a bottle of water, and munch on some snacks to keep them going.
Who is invited? Well pretty much anyone who wanders in, the “big tent” theory being that if you’ve made it down in to the pits, you are interested enough in experimental aviation to be one of the crowd. I can’t tell you how many dispatches from Kitplanes authors have been written in the back of this tent over the years – but I can tell you that it is much appreciated!
