Have you seen a lot of RV-4s on the field this year? No surprise as it is the 40th anniversary of the Van’s Aircraft RV, a tandem, two-seat, little metal airplane that some argue is the very best example of “total performance.” They were assigned a special parking area just west of the main homebuilt vendor expanse. The Velocity fleet is lined up just in front (and east) of the little RVs since the -4s are far more comfortable taxing across uneven ground.
Since the RV-4 pilots weren’t able to camp with their planes in this area, those folks wanting to camp were given a concentrated camping area immediately adjacent to the Homebuilder’s Pavilion and its amenities…showers, flush toilets, picnic tables, and lots of electrical outlets.
